Hi
I have an MSI GE60 laptop and the internal dvd drive is shown as "Slimtype DVD A DS8A8SH".
I liked to have the firmware patched to be region free and remove riplock if there is any and also optimize the write speed etc.
I am also attaching a backup of the firmware created using Flash Utility.
thanks.

The drive seems to come from Liteon PLDS...
Did you try LtnRPC with it yet?

I just downloaded LtnRPC and used the query button and it gave this:
__________
Type Code : No drive region setting
# of Vendor Resets Available : 4
# of User Controlled Changes Available : 5
Drive region not set yet.
__________
I'm worried about messing with the drive resulting in breaking it if I use the disable button in LtnRPC.
It would be so good if one of those geeks like TDB could make a verified firmware patcher for this drive, also optimizing the write speed and removing any limitations (like riplock) if there are any.
I look forward for your advice.

The patcher "biz" is kind of dead since months... There are no real new challenges which could force any of them make an return, probably.

If you are scared already by using a simple software then leave it! Use AnyDVD.

I've a bit of experience flashing different firmwares of different devices (my old pioneer and sony dvd drives, pc bios, even my htc cellphone etc.) to get the most advantage of the hardware against digital locks (what is known to be sort of a Defective by Design trend); Though most of them have been previously tested by professionals.
Also if the drive is messed and wrecked accidentally it would ruin a laptop than just a single dvd drive.

Nonetheless maybe I have not conveyed my request properly: I rather want to remove all of my drive's possible locks and limitations and optimize it as said before besides simply removing the region lock that is not really the main concern.

Thank you again for your help and I hope that someone would make some firmware patcher for these devices.
